(New York, NY) – SMASH Productions LLC is stoked to announce that SMASH FEST 1 will play host to the world premiere of the New York surfing epic, ‘A Hundred Miles to the End,’ a film directed and produced by John Beattie. The premiere will take place on Saturday, July 13th at 7PM at the Long Beach Public Library in Long Beach, NY. After suffering a debilitating stroke in 2007, John Beattie made a strong recovery but was left unable to continue his lifelong love of surfing. Through film, John has been able to reconnect with his passion. ‘A Hundred Miles to the End’ follows John from Long Beach to Montauk as he rediscovers surfing, as it exists today, in the different surfing communities throughout Long Island, NY.
SMASH FEST 1 is a month-long series of surf film and art events that will span the New York area from Brooklyn, to Rockaway Beach, to Long Beach and Montauk. SMASH FEST 1 is the first profit-sharing surf film festival for independent filmmakers. The world premiere of ‘A Hundred Miles to the End’ will be the official opening event of SMASH FEST 1.
Proceeds from the opening evening of SMASH FEST 1 will go to Friends of the Library and a raffle will be held for the Long Beach Surfer’s Association & Artists in Partnership Inc. Friends of the Library is a 501 © organization that is an advocate for the Long Beach Public Library that helps to raise additional funds in order to support the library’s programs and purchase materials outside of the library’s budget. The Long Beach Surfer’s Association is a non-profit that provides a unified voice for the surf community and helps ensure a public policy that appropriately addresses the needs of the large and vibrant community of Long Beach. Artists in Partnership, Inc is a not-for-profit arts organization, in partnership with the Long Beach Public Library, that has provided venues and opportunities to talented literary, visual and musical performers who have benefited the Long Beach Community for over 13 years.

SMASH (Surf/Movies/Art/Shaping/History) is a production company founded by Tyler Breuer, a native New Yorker who has been actively involved in the New York surf community for more than two decades. The mission of SMASH is to present, in a public forum, a body of emerging and historical work from the local and global surf community throughout the year. SMASH represents the natural evolution of its founders’ individual past projects, which include art exhibits, live musical performances, websites, blogs, movie premieres and film screenings, including the New York Surf Film Festival. SMASH is an ever-expanding effort to preserve the roots of surfing and surf culture and to educate both newcomers and established members of the surf community about the rich history of surfing while maintaining a strong connection to contemporary surf culture.
